Occupation Explorer

Reading Annual Openings: openings are growth plus replacements, and Lightcast floors the growth term at zero for each occupation, county and year before adding anything up. That is deliberate, so a shrinking occupation does not cancel out a growing one. Two consequences. Openings will always be at least as large as net job change, so a gap between them is arithmetic, not an error. And do not re-add openings across occupations or years and compare that to a figure computed at the higher level, because the zero floor makes the sum run high. Replacements also count only workers permanently leaving an occupation, so ordinary job changing inside the county is invisible here.

Wage Curves · BLS OES May 2025 · Indianapolis MSA

Full wage distribution (10th / 25th / median / 75th / 90th percentile) for 630 occupations across the Indianapolis-Carmel-Greenwood MSA. Hamilton County employers typically pay a premium of 10–20% above MSA median for skilled occupations.
Reading the vintage: BLS OES is a three-year rolling survey published about a year after its reference date, so “May 2025” names the reference period rather than a month of measurement. Each figure pools roughly three years of survey panels. Treat it as a recent-past baseline, not today’s going rate, and expect current openings in a tight occupation to sit above the band. Suppressed cells stay blank: we do not impute what BLS withheld for respondent confidentiality.

Job Posting Demand · Lightcast 12-month trailing

Real-time hiring demand across Hamilton County. Top occupations by posting volume, top skills employers are asking for, and education/experience requirements.
Total vs Unique: the same opening is often advertised on several boards at once. Total counts every advertisement; Unique counts the openings left after duplicates are removed. Across these occupations Total runs about 2.8x Unique and as high as 5.2x, so read Unique as the demand figure and treat Total as advertising volume. The skills, industry, city and monthly-trend figures below are advertisement counts with no deduplicated equivalent, so compare them to each other rather than to a headcount.
